  • .  Greville E. Toshack, initiated July 15, 1910; grandfather of Bro. Jack Toshack, who has acted as Tyler for the Lodge for many years.

  • .  J. T. Kirkland, Master 1911, probably the former Postmaster of Almonte.

  • .  J. K. Kelly, Treasurer 1911, former physician and father of Elizabeth Kelly, first librarian in Town of Almonte.

  • .  G. M. Gemmill, member 1911, perhaps person after whom "Gemmill Park, Almonte" is named.

  • .  Application for Admission made by Raymond Algernon Jamieson (Barrister) on January 6, 1922. On February 17, 1972, it is recorded:

  • Wor. Bro. R. A. Jamieson was invited to approach the E. and was presented with a 50 year lapel button by V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton. In his reply Wor. Bro. Jamieson told those present that he had sat in lodge with Bro. Jason Thrall who was a Charter member of Mississippi Lodge.
  • .  Application for Admission made by Alfred Moorhouse Hudson, age 25 years, Farmer, of Township of Fitzroy in the County of Carleton on September 7, 1923. On March 7, 1974:
    V. Wor. Bro. Alfred M. Hudson was called forward and received a Fifty Year Lapel Button presented by Bro. Tripp. V. Wor. Bro. Hudson was congratulated on his fifty years service as a Mason, to Mississippi Lodge and to Grand Lodge. He replied in a very suitable manner, mentioning many men with whom he had been associated during his years in the Craft. He said that men were attracted to Masonry by the example of men they knew to be Masons. Wor. Bro. Allan McIntosh expressed his personal appreciation to V. Wor. Bro. Hudson for his help and advice during the past few years.

  • .  Donald McLean Campbell (former real estate agent in Almonte) was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on December 26, 1924.
  • .  On February 5, 1926 an application for affiliation was received from Bro. N. S. Lee (father of Wor. Bro. Stuart Lee of Almonte) from Evergreen Lodge No. 209. At the time of application it is further reported "the applicant had recently lost his father by the hand of Death".
  • .  On September 6, 1940, an application for initiation was received from Mr. Stanley Hirst Morton, Almonte, age 30 years, occupation Mill Worker. V. Wor. Bro. Morton went on to a distinguished career in Masonary, and contributed mightily to Mississippi Lodge as Master, long-time Secretary and Grand Steward. V. Wor. Bro. Morton is also a well-known retailer in the Town of Almonte, and was the first recipient of the James R. McGregor Award for Distinguished Business Contribution in the Town of Almonte (an award founded by the local Business and Professional Association in honour of the late James R. McGregor, deceased September, 1984 who was also a member of Mississippi Lodge No. 147).

  • .  January 3, 1941: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Louis Peterson, manufacturer, 45 years of age. Bro. Peterson went on to become the well-known founder of the equally famous Peterson's Ice Cream Company on Mill Street in Almonte. At the same meeting, an application was read from Mr. Austin Hugh Whitten, age 43, proprietor of the Almonte Hotel.

  • .  Mr. William Young Woods, truckman, age 34, Pakenham, balloted on September 5, 1941.
  • .  The committee on the petition of Mr. Robert John France reported favourably for initiation on October 3, 1941. Wor. Bro. R. J. France was the Clerk-Treasurer of the Town of Almonte for over 35 years.

  • .  Application of Mr. Geo. Gomme, Age 30, Almonte, Occupation Manager, January 8, 1943. Geo. Gomme (who was one of the original "home boys" from England) went on to become Minister of Highways under the Provincial Conservative Government. In this regard, see also the following transcript of a article affixed to the minutes of June 27, 1943:
ALMONTE, June 27 - The death occurred at the Rosamond Memorial Hospital on Friday of William W. Watchorn, ex-mayor of Almonte and prominent in town municipal affairs for the last 25 years. He died as a result of injuries sustained in a fall from the roof of a building at the local plant of Producers' Dairy. Born at Clayton, 64 years ago, he was newspaper the son of the late Catharine Smith and Robert Watchorn. He moved over 30 years ago and was town foreman for a time, chief of police, councillor, reeve and mayor Almonte for a few years. Always interested in the welfare of the youth of the town, it was through his efforts that the local skating rink operated for the past Winter and the benefit of the children. He was an ardent sportsman and a member of the Almonte Curling Club. He was also a member of the local Masonic lodge. His wife, the former Lita Turner, died last Fall. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George E. Gomme (Rosedith) and a grandson, Billy Gomme, six sisters...

On December 2, 1960 an application for admission was received from Mr. William George Gomme, age 21 years, occupation lumberman, resident of Almonte.

On June 23, 1944 Mr. E. H. Farnham, principal of Almonte Public School for upwards of ten years, was installed as the Master of the Lodge.

On January 5, 1945 it is recorded that Bro. S.D. (Robert J. France) was appointed Town-Clerk of Almonte.

November 1, 1946: Application of Mr. John Carson Smithson, age 26, Occupation: Insurance Agent; Residence: Almonte; Business address: Brockville, Ont. Vy. Wor. Bro. Smithson left the insurance business in December, 1946. From 1947 to 1968, he was General Manager of Hill Motors and Burns Pontiac Buick. Subsequently, he was President of Almonte Leasing Ltd., and was Land Registrar (Lanark North) from 1968 - 1984. It is a happy coincidence that L. G. William Chapman, Solicitor, presented the last document of 1984 for registration at 4:30 p.m. on December 31st. In 1972, Vy. Wor. Bro. Smithson received the "Almonte Citizen of the Year" award from the Almonte Recreation Committee. Vy. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson has continued to this day to be a most active and prominent member of this Lodge. Aside from enjoying the elevated status of a Grand Lodge Officer, it was never beneath him to look after the more mundane affairs of the Lodge, not the least of which was the almost daily emptying buckets of water from the leaking roof throughout the winter of 1995 - 1996. He was awarded the distinguished 50-year jewel at the November, 1996 meeting.

June 24, 1947: Application for membership from Mr. Stewart Everett Lee, long-time proprietor of Lee's Pro Hardware Store in Almonte.

April 1, 1949: Application for membership from Mr. Murray Lawrence Comba, age 30 years, Funeral Director. Bro. Comba's father, Bro. George L. Comba, founded the funeral home continued by his son and currently known as Gamble & Comba, which has been in Almonte together with Kerry Funeral Home and Chapel for many years. Also on this date, application was received from Mr. George A. Thompson, who later became the long-time Clerk-Treasurer of the Township of Ramsay.

December 1, 1950: Application for membership from Mr. Robert Philip Rivington of the Township of Ramsay, age 25 years, occupation electrician. Bro. Rivington continues to be an active member of both the Blue and Red Lodges, in addition to his many contributions to the local community.

November 2, 1951: Application was presented from Mr. George Elmer Goodfellow age 29 years, address Almonte, occupation labourer. Wor. Bro. Goodfellow has been a consistent participant in Lodge affairs since his initiation.

March 7, 1951: Application was presented from Mr. Albert Gale, age 41, residence Almonte, occupation Real Estate Broker. Bro. Gale was long-time president of the prominent Ottawa valley real estate company bearing his name.

May 2, 1952: Application from Mr. Harry Walker age 36 years, occupation dairyman, address Almonte. Wor. Bro. Walker was part of the clan of Almonte people from "The Island" (Coleman's Island). He cultivated this distinction by being not only a great man and a Mason, but a friend to many in the Town of Almonte throughout his life. In his latter years, he met and served many of his friends at the local LCBO.

May 1, 1953: Application was received from Mr. Delmar Robert Millar age 26, address Almonte, Telegraph Operator, Recommended by W. Bro. R. J. France and Bro. R. L. Smithson. Vy. Wor. Bro. Millar acted as Secretary for the Lodge over an extensive period, and later attained the appointment of a Grand Lodge Officer, well deserved for the many years of dedicated service to Mississippi Lodge.

November 7, 1953: Application for affiliation received from Bro. John Leonard Virgin of Almonte, a M.M. in good standing of St. Francis Lodge No. 24, age 25 years, occupation trainman. Bro. Virgin (later a well known local insurance agent) was in time to become one of many members of the Lodge whose son eventually joined them in the fraternity.

November 4, 1955: Application from Mr. Owen Joseph Osborne age 29 years, occupation Civil Servant, residence Almonte. Rt. Wor. Bro. Osborne was to distinguish himself in Mississippi Lodge as a District Deputy Grand Master, Ottawa District No. 1.

November 4, 1955: Application from Mr. Stuart Graham Hudson age 22 years occupation Farmer, residence R.R. No. 1, Kinburn. Wor. Bro. Hudson has continued to this day to be very active in Lodge affairs and has on numerous occasions skilfully supervised the installation of the Master Elect. On his initiation, the Master in the Chair was Vy. Wor. Bro. Alf Hudson (uncle); and, on the side benches were Bro. Stuart Hudson (father) and Bro. George Graham (grandfather). When Wor. Bro. Graham Hudson was honoured by the residents of West Carleton in recent years, the subject of his active membership in the Craft was a source of constant reference and many quips.

January 6, 1956: Application from Mr. Robert Leonard Hill age 31 residence Almonte, occupation Hardware Clerk. Wor. Bro. Hill continued to distinguish himself in Lodge ritual particularly in regard to the moving "dark work".

February 3, 1956: Application from Mr. William Bellamy age 41 years, occupation farmer, address Clayton. Bro. Bellamy was affectionately known to many as "the Mayor of Clayton", where he continued to live and work until his death.

November 2, 1956: Application was received from Mr. Benjamin David James, age 27 years, residence Almonte, occupation Bell Telephone Co. Bro. James, whose father was Registrar of Deeds in the Almonte Land Registry Office, later became a member of Council for the Township of Ramsay.
In December, 1956, funeral services were held for Bro. George Wellington Willoughby, "who had served on several municipal bodies and was Mayor of Almonte for a time".

November 1, 1957: Application presented from Mr. John Ralph Cameron, age 43 years, residence Almonte, occupation Army Officer attached to N.D.H.Q., Ottawa. Wor. Bro. Cameron, owner of "The Glen", one of Almonte's most distinguished mansions, was active in many local organizations, having acquired a well-deserved reputation for ably conducting a meeting. The Presbyterian Church was always close to him, as were matters pertaining to the Lanark County Board of Education. Each New Year's Day, Col. Cameron and his wife, Peggy, would throw open their home to Almonte residents for a traditional "levee". W. Bro. Cameron died on September 15, 1993.

March 7, 1957: Application from Mr. Andrew Carson Johnson, age 34 years, occupation Merchant. Bro. Johnson was the long-time owner of Johnson's Clothing Store (now owned by Mr. Gordon Timmons) on Almonte's central commercial street, Mill Street.

November 7, 1958: Application from Dr. James George Coupland, age 29 years, occupation dental Surgeon, residence Almonte.

December 5, 1958: Application from Mr. Roy S. Brown, age 45 years, residence Almonte, occupation Insurance Salesman.

March 6, 1958: Application from Mr. Raymond Hugh Duncan, age 38, residence Almonte, occupation poultry raiser.

November 6, 1959: V. Wor. Bro. Cecil D. Cook, father of the Candidate (Harold Elliott Cecil Cook) presented him with a ring which had been worn by his great grandfather who had been initiated into Frederick Lodge No. 217 ninety years ago.

January 8, 1960: Application from Mr. Russell Turner, age 29 years, occupation farmer and trucker, residence R.R. No. 3, Almonte. For years, Wor. Bro. Turner and his colleague Wor. Bro. Wright Mohr have joined forces to present the newly installed officers with their respective collars.

June 3, 1960: Application from Mr. Charles Baker, age 38 years, residence Almonte, occupation General Salvage Dealer. Bro. Baker was for a time the Mayor of Almonte.

September 2, 1960: It was moved by Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson and Harry Walker that the lodge purchase the necessary regalia for V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton who had received a Grand Lodge appointment as a Grand Steward. Carried.

January 6, 1961: Application for initiation was presented from Mr. Raymond John Pretty, age 25 years, residence Almonte, occupation Body Repairman.

April 7, 1961: Application presented from John Kenneth King, age 31, occupation Medical Doctor, residence Almonte.

February 2, 1962: Application for Affiliation from Bro. Sidney C. Barrat, age 57 years, residence Pakenham, Ont., occupation C.P.R. Agent.

June 20, 1963: Rt. Wor. Bro. Howard Polk, Grand Registrar was introduced to the brethren assembled. Most Wor. Bro. Howard O. Polk has been a faithful friend of Mississippi Lodge over the years.

September 19, 1963: Application for initiation from Mr. Robert Wright Mohr, age 25 years, occupation Dept. of Highways, residence Carleton Place.

May 14, 1964: Application was presented from Mr. David John McMullan, age 21 years, self-employed, residence Almonte. Vy. Wor. Bro. McMullan led a distinguished career in Masonry, having acted as Secretary to Rt. Wor. Bro. Owen J. Osborne of this Lodge during his tenure as District Deputy Grand Master (Ottawa District No. 1). Vy. Wor. Bro. McMullan's pork and beans were also hailed as the sine qua non of the supper following the annual visit of the D.D.G.M. Vy. Wor. Bro. McMullan was also part of that special group of people who constituted a father-son tradition in Masonry (Wor. Bro. R. H. McMullan).

November 17, 1966: Application from Carl Frederick Sadler, age 38, residence Almonte, Occupation Carpenter. Bro. Sadler was also very active and advanced in the Almonte Lions Club.
January 19, 1967: Application from Mr. Allan MacIntosh, age 32 years, occupation farmer, residence R.R. No. 2, Almonte.

May 18, 1967: Application from Mr. John William Willard, age 23 years, occupation school teacher, residence Almonte.

December 21, 1967: Application from Mr. George Duncan Russell Brown, age 24 years, occupation Farmer, residence Pakenham.

April 18, 1968: "The resignation of V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton from the office of Secretary, effective May 16 was accepted with regret on motion of Wor. Bro. James Ingram, seconded by Bro. Elmer Goodfellow. Carried". May 16, 1968: "An election was held to fill the office of Secretary and V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton was re- elected". February 15, 1973: "Wor. Bro. Cameron read a letter form V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton, tendering his resignation as secretary of the lodge effective May 18, 1973. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson on behalf of the lodge expressed appreciation to the Secretary for his years of service to the lodge and suggested the W. M. appoint a committee to find a replacement". On May 17, 1973, "V. Wor. Bro. Alf. Hudson expressed the appreciation of the lodge to V. Wor. Bro. S. H. Morton for his efforts as Secretary for the past twenty-seven years". On October 18, 1973 V. Wor. Bro. Morton acted as Secretary pro tem. And again on November 15, 1973; and December 20, 1973; and January 17, 1974; and February 21, 1974; and March 7, 1974; March 21, 1974; April 18, 1974; May 16, 1974; September 19, 1974. And he continued until the April, 1975 meeting at which "Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson, Wor. Bro. R. L. Hill and Wor. Bro. Russell Turner were appointed as a committee to seek out a secretary for the coming year". On May 20, 1976, "Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson, chairman of the committee appointed to find a new secretary for the lodge (announced) that Wor. Bro. Delmar R. Millar would accept the position if selected. At this point an election for office of Secretary was held and on examination Wor. Bro. D. R. Millar was elected". On March 15, 1979, "Correspondence included a letter of resignation from Wor. Bro. D. R. Millar to take effect at the end of May, 1979. Wor. Bro. Millar, in his letter, said he would gladly assist his successor in any way he could". It was not until the spring elections of April 25, 1980 that Wor. Bro. David McMullan was reported to have been elected to the position of Secretary in the place of V. Wor. Bro. D. R. Millar.
December 19, 1968: Applications received from Mr. Peter Cochran, age 22, occupation Farmer, Residence Ramsay; Mr. Donald Erskine Cochrane, age 24, occupation Bell Telephone Co. residence Ramsay.

February 18, 1971: Application was presented from Mr. Grant Campbell, age 48 years, occupation Barrister & Solicitor, residence Almonte.

May 20, 1971: An application was presented from Mr. Elford Giles, age 38 years, residence Almonte, mechanic employed at Burns Pontiac Buick.

September 21, 1972: An application for affiliation was presented from Bro. Rev. Harry Hamilton Brown, age 40, occupation Clergyman, residence Clayton, Ontario. Bro. Brown was the long-time Rector of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Almonte, and, following a brief absence from Almonte to fulfill a post in Morrisburg, has since retired to Almonte with his wife, Grace. On February 15, 1973 an application for affiliation was presented from Bro. Rev. John Addison Salter, M.M., age 65 years, Clergyman, residence Almonte. Bro. Ven. Salter was active throughout the area on behalf of the Anglican Church as well. He died on April 24, 1989 (see Minutes of September 21, 1989).

November 16, 1972: An application was presented from Mr. John Lindsay Toshack, age 35, occupation salesman, residence Almonte. Bro. Toshack went on to become a faithful and diligent Tyler of the Lodge, and looked after the Lodge premises, with the able assistance of his lady, Dolly.
September 20, 1973: Application for initiation was presented from Mr. Donald Robert Duncan, age 29 years, residence R.R. 3, Almonte, occupation Farmer.

October 18, 1973: An application for initiation was read from Mr. Gordon Allan Giles, age 28 years, occupation Stationery Engineer, residence Almonte.

December 19, 1974: Applications for initiation were presented from Wayne Richard Guthrie, age 29, occupation Safety Consultant, residence Almonte; and, Donald Grant Chaplin, age 28, occupation Policeman.

May 15, 1975: Application from Mr. James Francis Blair, age 37, occupation Teacher, residence Almonte.

September 18, 1975: Application was presented from Mr. Robert Howard Davis, age 49, Real Estate Broker, residence Almonte.

May 20, 1976: Application presented from Mr. Robert William Smithson (son of V. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson), age 28 years, occupation Building Engineer, residence Almonte. At the initiation of Wor. Bro. Robert W. Smithson on October 21, 1976: "At this time the W. M. called on Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson, father of the candidate, for a few words whereon W. Bro. Jack expressed his thanks to the members of the lodge on the very capable manner in which the degree had been conferred, and also that he was most pleased that his son had taken this very important step, the teachings of which he felt would be very helpful to him through his life". On being raised to the Third Degree, Wor. Bro. Robert W. Smithson was presented by his father "...with a Masonic ring which had been handed down through the family for three generations".

February 17, 1977: "Moved by W. Bro. Graham Hudson, seconded by W. Bro. Bert Young, that the widows of former members be contacted and those desirous of attending the Ladies' Night function be presented with complimentary tickets. Carried".

May 19, 1977: "Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson thanked W. Bro. Peter Cochran for taking the chair for the second successive term and assured him of the support of all Past Masters and pointed out that he was not expected to overload his schedule by trying to attend all the visits and social functions as he had done in the past year as Master and that thanks to his co-operation and dedication our lodge officers were saved from a complex situation which would not have been easy to deal with".

May 19, 1977: Amendments to Lodge By-laws; viz., initiation fee (including registration in Grand Lodge, one M.M. apron and one bible $100; affiliation fee of $25; annual dues $18, $15 if paid before March 31; and non-resident dues $9.

November 18, 1977: It was reported that W. Bro. John Aspinall, the oldest member of Mississippi Lodge, had passed to the Grand Lodge above.

December 16, 1978: Application for affiliation from Bro. Arthur Code Robertson of the Almonte, age 68 year, Professor, Waverly Lodge No. 36, Guelph.

December 16, 1978: Application for initiation from Mr. Douglas George Sonnenburg, Almonte, age 25 years, occupation Fireman.

January 19, 1978: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Lawrence George William Chapman, age 29 years, occupation Solicitor, residence Almonte.

February 16, 1978: Application for initiation was received from Mr. James Robert McGregor, age 36 years, occupation Real Estate Salesman, residence Almonte. Bro. McGregor died an untimely death in the year 1988 in a car accident.

October 19, 1978: Application for affiliation from Bro. David Lee Dillabaugh, Almonte, occupation Public Servant, age 33 years, Merrickville Lodge No. 55.

November 16, 1978: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Lloyd Francis Connolly, age 37 years, occupation store keeper, residence Almonte. Bro. Connolly has not only been very active in Masonry, but also the local Civitan, in which he attained high rank.

November 16, 1978: Bro. Stewart Hudson was on hand to receive his 50 Year Jewel which was presented to him by his son, W. Bro. Graham Hudson. The congratulations and best wishes were extended to Bro. Hudson as this is certainly a memorable occasion in any Mason's life.
March 15, 1979: "Birthday greetings were extended to Bro. James McGregor by Bro. William Chapman and all present sang Happy Birthday".

April 15, 1979: "It was reported that Bro. Jack Gilmour had returned to work after 4 1/2 months on the sick list and was feeling reasonably well".

October 18, 1979: Application for initiation was received from Mr. George Welland McKay of the Township of Ramsay, aged 36 years, occupation refrigeration contractor. Wor. Bro. McKay (who in the year 1997 was being rushed for appointment as the District Deputy Grand Master of Ottawa District No. 1) was to become a very active member of the Craft as a whole. He was responsible for the dedication of the current altar drapery, emblazoned with the well- known Masonic symbols of the square and compass.

December 21, 1979: "W. Bro. Ernie Adams and Bro. Sid Barratt were asked to approach the East and were respectively presented with their 50 year Grand Lodge awards by W. Bro. Graham Hudson and W. Bro. D. R. Millar. The warmest congratulations and best wishes were expressed to these two brethren by the members present. Each of these brethren in turn thanked the W.M. and Members of the lodge for the efforts that had been taken to acquire these jewels and for the gesture of presenting them at this meeting. W. Bro. Adams related a bit of lodge history as he recollected happenings over the last 50 years".

January 17, 1980: "At this time W. Bro. J. C. Smithson escorted W. Bro. Raymond Jamieson to the East and introduced him to the brethren, after which he presented the 50 year Past Masters Jewel to Wor. Bro. Raymond. W. Bro. Jamieson addressed the brethren giving a short resume of the history of the lodge as he recalled events which took place during his membership which dated back to Feb. 3, 1922 when he was initiated".

April 25, 1980: "The secretary was in receipt of an application form for the lodge to submit to Grand Lodge the name of any brother whom they felt was entitled to consideration for a Grand Lodge honourary degree. Some discussion was entered into and it was moved by W. Bro. Elmer Goodfellow and seconded by W. Bro. Wright Mohr that W. Bro. Jack Smithson be recommended to Grand Lodge for an honourary degree. Carried".

November 20, 1980: Applications for initiation received from Messrs. Norman Percy Allen Buske and Norman Alan Buske (father and son respectively). Both brethren were initiated together on February 19, 1981, for what the Wor. Master David L. Dillabaugh felt might possibly be a first time in Mississippi Lodge (if not in fact in lodges throughout Canada) for a joint initiation of a father and son team. As well, the initiation was performed by V. Wor. Bro. Alf. Hudson, a 50-year Past Master (see below).

November 20, 1980: "Rt. Wor. Bro. Pell at this time presented V. Wor. Bro. Alf Hudson with his 50 year Past Masters Jewel and congratulated him on attaining this milestone in his Masonic endeavours. V. Wor. Bro. Alf replied with a few well chosen words relating a few of his experiences during his Masonic life".

March 19, 1981: An application was received from Mr. Donald W. Downey, a Tool and Die Maker from the Village of Pakenham, age 31 years. Wor. Bro. Downey was one of many in a long line of distinguished brethren from the Village of Pakenham. In addition to an active role in lodge visitation throughout the District, Wor. Bro. Downey accepted the office of Master of Mississippi Lodge twice.
November 19, 1981: An application for affiliation was received from Bro. Anthony St. Dennis of the Town of Almonte, Master Mason, aged 33 years, occupation Engraver. Wor. Bro. St. Dennis went on to become the Secretary of the Lodge, and, thanks to his spirited and jovial approach to life, also contributed greatly to the general well-being of the Lodge and the many other brethren with whom he visited throughout the District.

January 21, 1982: An application for affiliation was received from Bro. Wayne M. Giardino of the Town of ALmonte, aged 38 years, occupation Salesman, Master Mason, presently a member of Temple Lodge No. 665.

April 15, 1982: Application for Initiation was received from Mr. Allan Smith Fulton of the Town of ALmonte, aged 49 years, occupation Mechanic.

May 20, 1982: An application for initiation was received from Mr. Mervyn Downey (brother of Wor. Bro. Donald Downey) of the Village of Pakenham, aged 41 years, occupation Equipment Operator.
May 20, 1982: An application for affiliation was received from Bro. Raymond Anthony Edward Cowlin of R.R. No. 1, Carleton Place, aged 45 years, occupation Director, being a M.M. member of United Service Lodge No. 3124, Shearness, Kent, England. On September 16, 1982, it is recorded that "The report of the examining board on the application for affiliation received from Mr. Raymond Cowlin recommended that although Mr. Cowlin did produce some documents verifying that he had been raised in United Service Lodge No. 3124 in Shearness, Kent, England, other documents necessary to establish that he was a member in good standing in this lodge were not available so therefore recommended that further investigation was necessary in order to establish this fact, the application to be held over".

May 20, 1982: "Bro. Robert Smithson was duly obligated and invested and placed in the chair of King Solomon by his father, W. Bro. Jack Smithson".

September 16, 1982: "At this time W. Bro. Jack Smithson was requested to approach the East and was invested with the regalia of Grand Lodge Steward by Rt. Wor. Bro. (Ronald) Campbell, D.D.G.M. Rt. Wor. Bro. Ron congratulated V. Wor. Bro. Smithson on his appointment stating that it was most deserving due to V. Wor. Bro. Jack's many and varied Masonic endeavours over the years. Rt. Wor. Bro. Bill Cook, Past D.D.G.M. who assisted with the investiture offered his congratulations to V. Wor. Bro. Smithson and recalled a few of his many associations with Jack in Masonry over the past many years. V. Wor. Bro. Smithson offered his thanks to Rt. Wor. Bros. Campbell and Cook for taking of their time to be present for his investiture and their kind remarks, he offered his special thanks to Wor. Bro. Wayne Guthrie who had been instrumental in the preparation of the brief which perhaps was mainly responsible for this appointment to Grand Lodge status".

October 20, 1983: "V. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson advised the brethren of his recent visit accompanied by the W. M. Bill Chapman and W. Bro. Ernie Adams to the home of W. Bro. Raymond Jamieson where they presented him with his 60-Year Grand Lodge Jewel. This proved to be a most enjoyable occasion and W. Bro. Raymond recalled many historical events of the lodge during his many years as a member. W. Bro. Raymond is the oldest living Past Master of Mississippi; he expressed his thanks to the visiting brethren and to the lodge for remembering him at this time".

November 17, 1983: "V. Wor. Bro. Alf Hudson was requested to approach the East where he was presented with his 60-Year Jewel by W. Bro. Graham Hudson. V. Wor. Bro. Alf thanked Graham for the presentation and Grand Lodge for recognizing his 60 years as a Mason. He recalled that when his application was presented to the lodge Rt. Wor. Bro. M. R. McFarlane was D.D.".

April 20, 1984: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Allan Barratt of the Village of Pakenham, aged 43 years, occupation Harness Maker. Bro. Barratt is one of a number of current lodge members who have attained particular distinction in their chosen avocation, and are well-known throughout the area for their exceptional talent and artistic ability. On February 21, 1985, prior to assuming his duties in the Degree Team for the Raising of Bro. Barratt, Rt. Wor. Bro. Bill Cook "...noted that he had business dealings with the candidate, Bro. Allan Barratt, about two years ago when he required some work performed on his buggy used at his daughter's wedding whereby he remarked what an excellent Craftsman Bro. Barratt was".

October 18, 1984: "Bro. Tony St. Dennis advised the members that he would be attending Builder's Lodge, Ottawa, his father would be receiving his 50-Year Jewel and that he would extend the greetings of Mississippi Lodge".

March 20, 1985: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Eldon Munro of the Town of ALmonte, aged 44 years, occupation Carpenter; and, from Mr. Allan R. McDonald of the Town of Almonte, aged 46 years, occupation Manager, Tech. Support, Bell Canada.

March 20, 1985: "The following brethren were presented with their 25 year pins and congratulated by W. Bro. Sonnenburg: Bro. Gordon Kilburn, Bro. Gordon VanDusen, Bro. Stewart Manarey, Bro. Milton Symington, W. Bro. Bill Woods, Bro. Bob Rivington, Bro. Cyril Pierce and W. Bro. Delmar Millar".
September 19, 1985: Application for initiation from Mr. John Dean Fulton, aged 28 years, R.R. 1 Pakenham, occupation B.N.R. Building Mechanic; Application for affiliation from Bro. Ronald Kay Mills, aged 41 years, Almonte, occupation Plan Examiner, City of Ottawa, a M.M. and a member of Carleton Lodge No. 465, Carp.
November 21, 1985: Application for affiliation from Bro. John Corkum, Almonte, aged 39 years, occupation RCMP being a M.M. and a member of Campbell Lodge No. 603, Campbellville, Ontario.
November 21, 1985: "W. Bro. Ernie Adams was asked to approach the East where the D.D. (Ron Falkner) presented him with his 50 Year P.M. lapel button and congratulated him on having attained this milestone. W. Bro. Ernie replied with a few fitting remarks wherein he related to some events of the lodge 50 - 60 years ago. He advised the brethren of the existence of several fraternal organizations in the town at that time and he chose Masonry".

December 19, 1985: "At this point Wor. Master McKay asked Bro. Don Downey to approach the East. Bro. Downey then called on V. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson and Bro. Syd Barratt to also approach the East at which time he presented to both brethren monogrammed and inscribed mugs with the Masonic Crest, large and small with the dates the respective brethren were initiated, passed and raised. Bro. Don Downey stated he had these mugs made up in appreciation of being sponsored by both recipients. He also stated he had a similar mug presented to Wor. Bro. John Langford of Pakenham for his good intentions in offering to also sponsor him which unfortunately would not be proper Masonic procedure in that he is not a member of Mississippi Lodge. Wor. Bro. Syd Barratt and V. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson both voiced their appreciation to Bro. Don Downey for his thoughtfulness and thanked him warmly".

February 20, 1985: An application for affiliation was received from Wor. Bro. Dalton Dewhurst Caldwell of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, occupation Taxi Broker, aged 61 years, a P.M. of Plantagenet and Temple Lodges No. 186 and 665. Wor. Bro. Caldwell epitomizes to many of the brethren throughout the District the finer qualities of Masonry, not the least of which is fraternal visitation.

February 20, 1986: "Thanks was extended to Bro. Jack Toshack and his wife for the very fine job they were doing looking after the lodge rooms".

May 15, 1986: "W. Bro. McKay called W. Bro. Dem Millar secretary to the floor and presented him with a 125th Anniversary Plate suitably mounted in appreciation of his assistance during the year and his dedicated service to the lodge for many years. W. Bro. Millar expressed his thanks to W. Bro. McKay".

May 21, 1987: "He (Wor. Bro. Anthony St. Dennis) presented W. Bro. Chapman with the gavel he had made suitably engraved as a memento and in appreciation to Bill for his having taken on the duties as Installing Master".

September 17, 1987: Application for initiation received from Mr. Kenneth L. Draper of the Town of Almonte, aged 46 years, occupation Educator. W. Bro. Draper, also very active in the Almonte Lions Club, is one of Almonte's philanthropic workhorses. His dedicated energy, kindly nature and unceasing interest have made W. Bro. Draper an enormous asset not only to Mississippi Lodge but to the Town of Almonte generally.

February 18, 1988: "Bro. Keith McIntosh is the son of W. Bro. Allan McIntosh and is a member of Warren Lodge. At his request Mississippi conferred this Third Degree. W. Bro. Allan McIntosh expressed his pleasure at being present when his son, Keith, was raised to a M.M.; and thanked Mississippi for conferring the degree".

March 17, 1988: "This being Nostalgia Night for the Past Masters of the lodge, the W.M. (Anthony St. Dennis) called in these brethren to relate some their recollections and their experiences while Master of the lodge. The following W.M.'s responded: V. Wor. Bro. Alf Hudson, V. Wor. Bro. J. C. Smithson, W. Bro. Dem Millar, W. Bro. Graham Hudson, W. Bro. Bill Chapman, W. Bro. George McKay and W. Bro. Jack Levi - these remarks proved most interesting".

May 19, 1988: Application for initiation was received from Dr. Larry Edward Caven of the Village of Pakenham, aged 33 years, occupation Veterinarian.

June 12, 1988: Application for initiation was received from Mr. John Leonard Fulton of the Village of Pakenham, aged 43 years, occupation Welder.

September 15, 1988: "Wor. Bro. Anthony St. Dennis requested Wor. Bro. Delmar Millar to meet him on the level where he presented Wor. Bro. Millar with a plaque in appreciation of his activities in the Lodge over the past years, he having served as Secretary for 12 years during this time. Wor. Bro. Millar expressed his thanks to the Lodge stating that he enjoyed being active in the Lodge and hoped that he would be able to contribute something during the coming years".

November 17, 1988: "The Wor. Master (Donald Downey) then proceeded to present a Sixty-Year Pin from Grand Lodge to Bro. Sidney C. Barratt, who joined Victory Lodge No. 563 in 1927 and subsequently affiliated with Mississippi Lodge on March 2, 1962. Wor. Bro. Sec'y provided the members present with a brief summary of Bro. Barratt's Masonic and personal career.

Congratulations were given by the Wor. master to Bro. Barratt on behalf of himself and the Brethren assembled. The Wor. Master pointed out that Bro. Barratt had been one of his sponsors; and that Bro. Allan Barratt (son of Bro. Sid Barratt) was also present in the Lodge upon this important occasion".
December 15, 1988: Application for Affiliation received from Bro. Gerald George Coleman of the Town of Almonte, age 42 years, occupation Real Estate Associate Broker, a Master Mason and members of St. Albans Lodge No. 200 at Mount Forest.

March 16, 1989: Application for affiliation and initiation respectively from Bro. Ken Seabrook of the Village of Carp, age 49 years, occupation Mechanical Superintendent, a M.M. and member of St. John's Lodge No. 63, Carleton Place; and Mr. Mervin W. Lesway of the Township of Pakenham, age 44 years, occupation Construction Millwright.

April 20, 1989: Application for affiliation from Wor. Bro. Brent Reid of the Town of Carleton Place, age 39 years, occupation Park Superintendent, a M.M. and member of St. John's Lodge No. 63, Carleton Place. Wor. Bro. Reid has proven himself to be a valuable addition to the ranks of Mississippi Lodge, assuming among other things the demanding duties of the J.W.

May 18, 1989: Application for Initiation received form Mr. Lyle Robert Cavanagh of the Village of Kinburn, age 29 years, occupation Mechanic. Wor. Bro. Cavanagh (Master 1996 - 1997) sat in the East when the Lodge considered purchasing the property adjacent to the existing Lodge property at 34 Mill Street, Almonte. The adjacent property had recently become vacant due to the decline of an auto parts business, and the premises were for sale for about $125,000.

May 18, 1989: On the occasion of the installation of Wor. Bro. Ronald K. Mills as Master of the Lodge, "Wor. Bro. Downey presented Wor. Bro. Mills with the gift of a gavel (in wooden carrying box) from his wife and two children".

October 19, 1989: Application for affiliation received from Bro. Gary Way, Village of Pakenham, age 28 years, occupation Field Representative (Easter Ontario Breeders Association).

November 16, 1989: "The W. Master (Ronald K. Mills) accompanied by the D.D.G.M. (Carl Everson) presented a twenty-five year pin to W. Bro. Wright Mohr".

May 17, 1990: "V. W. Bro. David McMullan was presented with his twenty-five year pin by Rt. W. Bro. Carl Everson and W. Bro. Corkum. Rt. W. Bro. Everson mentioned this as being a special privilege for him as he had been a travelling companion of V. W. Bro. McMullan".

November 15, 1990: "W. Bro. (Donald) Downey escorted V. Wor. Bro. Stan Morton to the east, where he was presented with his 50 year pin by W. Bro. John Corkum and Rt. W. Bro. Ralph Boone (D.D.G.M.). W. Bro. Corkum mentioned, during the presentation, that V. W. Bro. Morton had been Secretary for 29 years. V. W. Bro. Morton then mentioned that in that time he had only missed two meetings. He went on to tell of his introduction to Masonry. He described his job at the woolen mill as a "nest of Masons". V. W. Bro. Morton was then escorted to his seat to a warm round of applause".

April 18, 1991: "W. Bro. Corkum called the brethren to order, to observe a minute silence for our recently departed Brother Charles Scanlan. Following our minute of contemplation, V. W. Bro. Smithson mentioned that Bro. Scanlan had been Tyler for a number of years, and that his coffee was renowned throughout the Valley".

May 16, 1991: Application for initiation presented by Mr. Carl Norman Lakins.

November 21, 1991: "W. Bro. Robert France was escorted to the east, where he was presented with his 50 year pin by W. Bro. Gary Way and Rt. W. Bro. Ray Grant".

December 19, 1991: "W. Bro. Downey requested W. Bro. William Y. Wood be escorted to the east, where he was presented with his 50 year pin. W. Bro. Downey then requested Bro. Lee Bradley be escorted to the east where he was presented with his 25 year pin. W. Bro. Downey pointed out both members as having their homes in Pakenham".

March 19, 1992: "W. Bro. Way then requested Bro. Willard Millar be escorted to the East here he and V. Wor. Bro. Tripp presented him with his 25 year pin".

March 19, 1992: "W. Bro. Chapman had visited V. W. Bro. J. C. Smithson (recovering from a hip operation). He was still quite sore but is feeling much better. He shared the sight of his ghastly wounds, still visible, with W. Bro. Chapman". This quotation is, by the way, a good example of the mischievous humour perpetrated by Wor. Bro. Anthony St. Dennis (Secretary) in his transcription of what might otherwise have been the rather dry events of Lodge.

April 16, 1992: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Paul John Virgin, Town of Almonte, age 37 years, occupation Insurance Salesman. Bro. Virgin is the son of Bro. John Virgin, Sr.
May 21, 1992: On the occasion of his installation for the second time as Master of the Lodge, "W. Bro. (Donald) Downey then presented W. Bro. Giles with a present in token of his thanks for acting as installing Master. W. Bro. Giles seemed to be overwhelmed. This presentation was followed by warm applause".

September 17, 1992: Application for initiation was received from Mr. John David McMullan, age 21 years, occupation Student, residing in the Town of Almonte. Bro. McMullan is the son of the late V. Wor. Bro. David McMullan. On February 18, 1993, for the ceremony of his Passing, the S.W. for the degree team was W. Bro. Dalton Burns (Cobden Lodge), the step-grandfather of Bro. McMullan.

November 19, 1992: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Ronald Gordon MacMeekin, age 47, occupation Director - Human Resources, residing in the Township of Ramsay.

December 17, 1992: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Richard Clair Beaubien, Township of West Carleton, age 41, occupation Customer Service, I.B.M.

December 17, 1992: Application for initiation was received from Mr. David George McKay, Township of Ramsay, age 21, occupation Custodian - Canadian Marconi. Bro. McKay is the son of Wor. Bro. George McKay. At his initiation on March 18, 1993, Bro. Harold McKay (brother of W. Bro. Geo. McKay) was also in attendance.

December 17, 1992: "W. Bro. Downey requested Bro. John Willard to meet him on the Level where he presented him with his 25 year pin. He was received with warm applause".

March 18, 1993: Application for initiation was received form Mr. Scott Donald Downey, age 23, occupation Tool and Die Maker, Township of Pakenham. Bro. Downey is the son of W. Bro. Donald Downey and nephew of Bro. Mervyn Downey. The ceremony of initiation of Bro. Downey was led by Wor. Bro. Donald Downey in the East on September 16, 1993.

May 20, 1993: Application for initiation was received from Mr. Gordon Wyllie. At the ceremony of his initiation on October 21, 1993, in attendance was his brother-in-law, W. Bro. Lesley Outridge, P.M. 1984 -85 of The Victory Lodge #547, Markham, Ontario.
